Word Herd ("the app") is a word game published by Trevor Corbin. This page explains what information the app collects, why, and how it's used. Word Herd does not sell your personal information.
You can play without creating an account — Word Herd automatically assigns your device an anonymous account so your progress, stats, and purchases are saved. If you choose to sign in with Google, your Google account links to that same anonymous account so your progress carries over, and your Google profile provides a display name.
To support turn-based and real-time multiplayer, the app stores match/room data (boards, scores, and the player identities involved) for the duration of a game and a limited retention period afterward. Friend connections (friend codes, friend lists, and pending invites) are stored so friends can find and play with each other.
With your permission, the app sends push notifications (via Firebase Cloud Messaging) for multiplayer events like a completed match or an accepted invite, and local reminders to play. You can disable either in the app's Settings or your device's notification settings at any time.
Free gameplay is supported by ads served through Google AdMob. To serve and measure ads, AdMob collects your device's advertising identifier and shares it with Google's advertising partners — including third-party advertisers and bidding partners — who may use it to select ads and measure their performance across apps. This is subject to Google's privacy policy. A one-time in-app purchase removes the ads that interrupt play; rewarded ads you choose to watch yourself remain available.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, Word Herd asks for your consent before any ad is requested, using Google's certified consent platform. No ad is loaded or shown until you have answered, and if you decline, none is requested at all — the rest of the game is unaffected. You can change your answer at any time from Settings → Support → Privacy options inside the app.
In-app purchases (cosmetic items, ad removal) are processed entirely by Google Play Billing. Word Herd never sees or stores your payment details — only confirmation that a purchase was made, so the item can be unlocked on your account.
The app uses Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics, and Performance Monitoring to understand feature usage and diagnose crashes/slow performance. This data is aggregated and tied to an internal device/installation identifier, not your name or email.
Account and gameplay data is retained for as long as your account is active. To request deletion of your account and data, see how to delete your account.
Word Herd is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
We may update this policy as the app changes. Material changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
Questions about this policy or your data can be sent via the app's Settings → Support → Contact Us, or to the support address listed there.
